How To Create a Form Article

Page last modified 07:46, 11 Oct 2012 by kavitha

This section allows you to create and publish the form article for the site.

For creating and publishing a Form Article you need to:

    1. Design your form (decide what fields you want to have in your form)

    2. In Site Administrator create the JA (CCK) fields that you need for your form

    3. Assign the JA (CCK) fields to a JA Fields Group

    4. In Jentla Content Manager, create your Form Article and add to its content the JA fields previously created

    5. Create a Base Article to be used as a template for the data that will be submitted via the Form Article

    6. Go back to Site Administrator and create a new CCK Field for the submit button to be used within your form.

    7. Publish the article.

You will describe below the procedures for all the steps listed above, using a particular example. Let's assume that we want to create a registration form with the following fields:

    • First Name

    • Last Name

    • Gender

    • Username

    • Password

    • Address

    • Phone number

    • Email

The main steps to be performed in Jentla are:

Creating the CCK Fields and CCK Fields Group

In order to create a Form article we need to have the CCK Fields previously created in order to be able to insert them into the article. For information on how to create CCK Fields please see Jentla Action Fields

    1. Login to Jentla Administrator  (http://<yourdomain>.jentla.com/manager/administrator)

    2. Go to Jentla>Content>CCK Fields

    3. Click New to add a CCK Field.

    4. Enter the field details. Below is shown the screen for creating the First Name field:

For more details about JA (CCK) fields parameters please see Jentla Action Fields

    1. Click Save from the tool menu and the JA (CCK) field will be created.

    2. Perform steps from 3 to 6 for each JA (CCK) field to be created. You'll have in the JA (CCK) Fields view all the created fields listed:

    1. Go to Jentla > Content > CCK Fields Group and click New to group all the previously created CCK fields into a new Group. You need to do this because at this step we link the CCK Group to Categories, so that the CCK Fields we've created to be available for the articles of a certain category:

    1. Click Save to create the Group or Cancel to abort the changes.

Creating the Form Article in Jentla Manager

    To create the Form Article:

    1. Login to the Jentla Content Manager - http://<yourdomain>.jentla.com/manager

    2. Go to Content Administration

    3. In the articles list view click New. You'll be directed to the jentla Administrator: Article screen

    4. Enter the Display Title, Internal Title, Internal Link, etc. in the appropriate fields

    5. Add the desired content in the Summary and Body areas

    6. In the Publishing Area on the right-side of the screen select the Categories for the article - must be the Categories you have selected when creating the JA (CCK) Fields Group at step 8 in the above section, so that you'll have available the CCK fields previously created for inserting them into the article.

    7. In the same Publishing Area set the Published as to Form from the dropdown list.

    8. In the bottom of the Body/Summary area click on the CCK Fields tab. A pop-up window displays where you can see the available CCK Fields for the selected Categories.

Note: You must have previously performed step no.6 (selecting the categories for the article) in order to be able to add the CCK field at this moment.

    1. In the pop-up window select the desired CCK Field and the Type.
In our example, we select firstname with Type = Label, click Insert and then repeat the step for the same CCK Field but with Type=Editable

    2. The CCK field will be added to your article. You can see that in the Summary area. Repeat steps 8 & 9 for each field you want to add in your Form Article.

    3. Click Submit/Publish to save/publish your article.

    4. Create a new article similar with the Form Article you've just created (steps 3 to 11 ), except for step 7 - here set the Published as to Base.  This Base Article will be used as a template for the data that will be submitted via the Form Article on the website.

At this moment we have created a Form Article and a Base Article with the desired fields (First Name, Last Name, Address, E-mail, etc.):

We still need to add to our article a Submit button. We will create this Submit button as a new CCK field and then add it to our articles. We couldn't perform this step earlier because we need the Base Article (that we use as a template) in setting the parameters of the CCK field for the Submit button, as illustrated below.

To create and add the Submit button to the Form Article:

    1. In Site Administrator and Go to Jentla > Content > CCK Fields

    2. Click New to add a CCK Field.

    3. Add the field details as illustrated below:

    1. Click Save option from the tool menu to create the Submit Button CCK Field or Cancel to abort the changes

Now, the last thing to do is to add the Submit button to your form:

    1. Go to Jentla Content Manager and click on Content Administration

    2. Select your Form Article from the list and click Edit

    3. In the bottom of the Body/Summary area click on the CCK Fields tab. A pop-up window displays where you can see the available CCK Fields for the selected Categories

    4. Select the Submit button in the CCK Fields area, and choose the Type as Editable.

    5. Click Insert

    6. Publish the article. In our example the published Form Article looks like this:
